An evening at the Pops

By Dad on anna; datenight; general — 8:10 pm

Friday night we had yet another night off, as Jen’s Mom stayed with Anna while Jen and I went to see the San Diego Symphony perform Tchaikovsky on Navy Pier. The finale was the 1812 Overture, complete with cannon fire courtesy of the National Guard. We stayed downtown at the Wyndham Emerald Plaza, overlooking the waterfront.

Sunday, we took a trip to the beach, where Anna spent pretty much the whole time in the water. I didn’t bring my boogie board, but regretted it later, as the waves looked awesome.

Our nautical weekend

By Dad on anna; general — 9:21 pm

Very nice weekend. Friday night we had dinner at Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse, then walked across the street to the Star of India, where we watched most of A Perfect Storm. The seats were pretty uncomfortable, and the picture wasn’t very good, which is why we bailed out during the intermission. Anna spent the night at M. and K.’s house.

Saturday, Anna and I spent a little time in the pool and Jen and I watched Memento after lights out. Very trippy flick.

Sunday, C. (new babysitter, yay) watched Anna while Jen and I went to see Pirates of the Carribbean and had dinner at Islands.

All in all, we had a very nice weekend, and the first time I think we’ve had two dates in the same weekend since Anna was born (and probably a long time before that).

Singing in the Rain

By Dad on anna; datenight; general — 6:39 am

Saturday night we saw Singin’ in the Rain at the Vista Moonlight Amphitheatre with M. and K. We brought a picnic dinner of salad, veggies, cheese, and my home-made chicken wings, which we ate in the grass right in front of our seats. After the sun went down, the play began. The show was suprisingly good for a neighborhood theatre. They even had it raining on stage! We got home a little late, but found that C. and Anna had been well behaved for the baby sitter.

Ooey Gooey

By Dad on general — 11:53 am

This morning we had something like ten two-year-olds over at our house making a mess in the back yard–intentionally. As a playgroup event, M. and Jennifer set up various bins with messy, tactile, fun things to play with. Beans, shaving cream, gooey multicolored glop–the kids loved it.
