Denial, Anger, Bargaining…

By Dad on general — 12:09 am

Denial. When I first read the press release, I was sure that Canon must be announcing more cameras for PMA. Seriously, are they showing up to the biggest photo trade show in North America with a Digital Rebel and a couple point ‘n’ shoots? On the heels of Nikon’s D3? Really?

Anger. I have been waiting for @$#$ months for a successor to the 5D, and I had spousal pre-approval to spend the @#$#$ money! How dare Canon do this to me?!?!

Bargaining. Maybe I can just go ahead and buy a 5D and sell it in the fall when Canon announces a successor at Photokina. I’ll lose a couple hundred in depreciation, but I’ll have the camera all summer and can make the money back on gigs…

Ugh.

Canon have just announced the least interesting camera ever. I don’t even remember the model number or specs, and I just read the announcement. Every other manufacturer is announcing a new flagship, and Canon unveils a dinghy.

Happy Birthday Jennifer!

By Dad on general — 11:13 am

Happy Birthday Mom! Clearly I’ve fallen off the blogging wagon, and I have a long list of excuses which I will enumerate in another blog post. Really. Ok, I really won’t, but I there has been a lot going on lately which I keep thinking I should be blogging about, I just never do it when I’m in front of the computer.

Anna deserves some blog time for the fact that she is, like her father and mother, turning into a very avid reader. Between Christmas vacation and last week she managed to tear through a 350-page compilation of the Pony Pals books, while reading other stories in between. She writes quite a bit also; every now and then I think of having her write a blog post. When I was writing the holiday letter last year, she was compelled to type up her own on her laptop, basically outing me as a couch potato. I’ll have to dig it up and post it at some point.

Tara continues to be a joy. There are many examples of this, but my favorite from yesterday was when Jennifer was playing hide-and-seek with our girls and the neighbor’s girls:

Jennifer: 27… 28… 29… 30! Ready or not here I come!

Our couch: Hee hee hee!

Jennifer: I’m coming to look for some kids!

Couch: Hee hee!

Jennifer: I hear some giggling, I bet there’s a little girl around here!

Tara: I’M BEHIND THE COUCH!

My only disappointment with Tara is that she continues to grow older. I’m not ready for it. Speaking of growing older, today we celebrated Jennifer’s birthday with the tradition of breakfast in bed, after letting Jennifer sleep in. All the girls lined up in bed and shared Mom’s breakfast, then we opened up presents. Last night Jennifer and I went out to the new Donovan’s downtown. Since we like the La Jolla location so much, we thought we’d try the new one down in the Gaslamp District. It’s quite nice, and I was very impressed when we were seated at our table to find a gold placard with our name on it. The food and service were stellar as always, and their martinis are so large that they should have smaller cocktails in orbit around them.

Later, there will be cake-making and football-watching, and tomorrow we have a day off.
